Hong Kong Q3 GDP Grows 5.2%, Growth Momentum Strengthens
Hong Kong's third-quarter economic growth beat market expectations, expanding for a 15th consecutive quarter.
Hong Kong's economy showed considerable resilience in the third quarter of 2026. Newly released data show real GDP grew 5.2% year on year — well above the market forecast of 3.6% and stronger than the 4.2% recorded in the second quarter.
By component, goods exports rose 30.4% year on year and imports 29.9%, indicating that international trade activity stayed brisk. Local private consumption grew 2.8%, reflecting continued support from household demand.
Across the first three quarters, real GDP grew 5.1% in cumulative terms — among the stronger performances for the period in the past five years.
- Stronger international trade brings more business to logistics, shipping and trade services.
- Financial markets and cross-border commercial activity should keep supporting the services sector.
- Global AI-related investment is creating new export demand for electronics and related supply chains.
- Tourism, retail, hotels and professional services are set to benefit from recovering activity.
As an international financial and trade hub, Hong Kong's export and financial-services performance carries some global reference value. If trade and investment keep improving, it will help consolidate the city's growth base.
